Reduce ranking points over time

For any event category on the federation platform it's possible to set a lifetime on each point awarded. For example, you could have each point become half its worth after six months, or maybe even have the points removed after a year. Each rule set up will affect the points of each event under the chosen category. This means it could be affect any ranking list, as long as the points were from an event with the category containing your rule.

Here's how to set it up.

Enter the categories page

From the federation page, enter the "Federation admin" settings page.

From there, click on "Event" in the menu on the left hand side.

Under that "Event" tab, choose "Categories".

Here you can choose whichever category you want to apply the reduction to. If you don't have any yet, feel free to go here for a small guide on how to create one. Once you've clicked on a category, you can go ahead and click the blue "Add" button under the "Points lifetime" header.

This is where you set the different reduction ages and percentages. In the example below I've set that once each point reaches an age of 12 months (a year) their value will be reduced by 50 percent. This is not a recurring reduction, meaning the points will have a 50 percent value from 12 months and above. Their next birthday the points will not be reduced further.

If you want there to be multiple points of reduction, you can simply click the "Add" button once more. From here you can enter a new age and any percentage. This will not stack on top of the previous reduction.

Example: In the example below we have a setup with two reductions; one of 50% after a year, and another one with 25% after two years. If an athlete had 200 points originally, they will become 100 points after a year. After two years they will not become 25 points, they will become 50 points. Each reduction is calculated based on the original score amount. So after one year the amount of points left will be 50% of 200. After two years the amount of points will be 25% of 200.

If you want the points to be removed completely after a set amount of time, simply set the point reduction percentage to 0%.

As always, don't forget to hit the "Save" button once you're done. We don't want to loose those precious changes!
