How to add tiebreakers to a Round Robin bracket

In round robin brackets there is a possibility that athletes ends up with the same amount of wins and if so there is no clear winner. Therefore its important to always add tiebreakers to try and solve these situations. In this article we will go over how to set it up!

1. Start by going to admin/brackets/tiebreakers.

2. Create your tiebreakers in the order they should be implemented. Smoothcomp will (in the case of a draw) look for the first rule, then the second rule and so forth until it can determine a winner. Make sure to save!

In the list of available tiebreakers you can see the winning methods from our different scoreboards. If you, for example, use the jiu-jitsu scoreboard it will have the following winning winning methods (tiebreakers) to press when the match is over.

When adding tiebreakers you can add general tiebreakers that works in all scoreboards or specific ones available in the scoreboard you are using.

* we are adding specific tiebreakers per scoreboard as we build support for new sports

If you want to show how the tiebreaker have activated to the public then leave this setting enabled.

If the bracket ends up in a tie where some (or all) athletes have the same amount of points the tiebreakers will activate in sequence order and try to determine the results.

In this example they all had 2 wins and each gained 10 points so we have a tie in terms of wins, but....

  • Beatrix had 2 submissions wins and therefore she is nr 1.
  • Luke had a total of 18 points in his matchscores so he is nr 2.
  • Harley had a total of 12 points in his matchscores so she is nr 3.
  • Jabba... I think you got the hang of it now!

Disclaimer!

There can be situations where the tiebreakers can't determine the winner. This will result in an undecided bracket and you will see a message after the last match that the bracket needs your input.

Solutions:

1. You can run one or more match between those who are in a tie again (open up the scoreboard again).

2. You can decide together with athletes and coaches and then manually change the results table at the bottom.
